Debut Album 'Into the Sea'

Ó a Bhríd - Ode to Brigid

An ode to Brigid, commissioned by herstory

Susan was commissed by Herstory.ie to write a piece of music in honour of Brigid for St. Brigid's Day, 2024. In her own words;

"Since landing home from Australia I have been making music with Enda Gallery deep in the hills of Kilfernora in County Clare. We have co-written and co-produced an Irish meditative mantra in our own native tongue, 11 minutes and 33 seconds long, imbued with love, the rhythm of a heartbeat through the sound of the bodhrán, magic and mysticism to honour the Spirit of Brigid and our homeland of Éire.

The song flowed peacefully through us as we sang our vocals through the light of a flame. In honour of Brigid and her sacred symbols, we have the sound of fire crackling throughout the track. We also recorded the water from St. Brigit's well in Liscannor to balance the sound with running water from the well. The song is also created at 432hz, known as a healing frequency."

Lyrics:

"Tabhair dom do lámh
Oscail mo chroí
Ag athrú ar nós crann
Ciúin ar nós uisce domhain
Ó a Bhríd
Bríd"

English translation:

"Give me your hand
Open my heart
Changing like a tree
Quiet as deep water
Ó a Bhríd
Bríd"

Susan Quirke Music

I love music. It makes me feel an aliveness in my belly and in my heart that nothing else on the planet does. Writing, recording in studio, the mixing and mastering process, performing at festivals, being in a room harmonising with other musicians, singing in my kitchen using the sweeping brush as a microphone... all of it.

On April 23rd 2021 I released my debut album 'Into the Sea' which has been gaining powerful traction on national and regional radio and national press. I've released a bunch of music videos, achieved an iTunes no.1, played some wonderful live on air sets on national and regional radio (it was album of the week on BBC Radio Ulster), and played at venues throughout Ireland, the US and Australia.  My debut album ‘Into the Sea’ features Irish music veterans Colm Mac Con Iomaire on violin (solo artist, The Frames, the Swell Season), Colm Quearney on guitar (the Square Pegs, Lír), Robbie Malone on bass (David Gray, Lír), Justin Carroll on piano (the Frames, Iron and Wine), and Graham Hopkins on drums (Therapy, the Frames, the Swell Season). The album was engineered by Ruth Kennington and Rían Trench, mixed and mastered by Grammy award winner David Odlum, and co-produced by myself and Colm Quearney. Thank you to all who have supported the journey over the years, including more recently, First Music Contact and the Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the album release stimulus initiative.

You can read a deeply personal blog I wrote about the making of my album here, a decade long adventure.

You can purchase my album via my Bandcamp, your support of my music is so appreciated. Thanks for checking me out.
